Mid-century black velvet half hat (calot) with an intact black birdcage veil. The label reads Pinehurst, Fifth Avenue, New York, made expressly for Frank R. Jelleff Inc of Washington, D.C. - a department store that served the capital for decades, which dates and places this piece. Size tag reads 22 1/2, the head circumference in inches. Maker: Pinehurst, Fifth Avenue, New York Retailer: Frank R. Jelleff Inc, Washington, D.C. Style: Half hat / calot with birdcage veil Material: Velvet with net veiling Size: 22 1/2 (head circumference, inches) Colour: Black Condition: Used, good vintage condition. The velvet nap is intact and the birdcage veil is complete with no tears found. Two flaws to note honestly: the maker's label is lifting at one end (shown in the interior photograph), and there are scattered lint and dust flecks across the velvet that a soft brush should lift. Interior grosgrain band is clean.
